“Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…
Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.
Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.
Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.
Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.
But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she
will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.”
This book was so much fun to read. The atmosphere of the book was great too. Taking place in a coastal town in Oregon. My favorite state in the USA! YES! ☺️☺️
From the started I was connected to the character Penny. I loved her all the way through the book. I really didn’t have an issue with any of the characters. I wish we could have gotten more on Penny’s dad but it also flowed with the plot. I did like that we got answers at the end of the book.
Bo was a dark and mysterious character. I do like the real reason why he came to Sparrow and not the reason he initially told. It gave something more to the story.
Ooooo and that twist towards the end. Nope didn’t see that one. But it’s like the movie Sixth Sense. Once you know about the twist you go back and see all the hints that were there and you are like “man she’s good! She got me.”
The Swan sisters. I would love a whole entire book just one them alone. Like a prequel to this book. The life and adventure in Sparrow. Their story in their own words and point of view. We did get bits and pieces of background on the sisters through the story but I was craving more by the end of the book.
For a debut novel this was amazing! I can’t wait to read the next book she is currently working on. She told me it takes place in a haunted, snowy forest with moonlight and mystery! Ummm yes!! Take my money now! 💸
Highly recommend this book!
