31 Days of Summer Horror – Day 5: Winchester

“The most haunted house in the world sits on an isolated stretch of land that’s 50 miles outside of San Francisco. Built by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester fortune, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To an outsider, it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah’s actually building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts — and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters.”

I was excited to watch this one. I have know, and read, about the Winchester House for years. One day I will get out to California and see the house and take a tour. This movie had a good spook factor. I love what they did with the story. I’m always down for a good ghost story. One I will watch again.

So while I did enjoy the movie, I did nitpick a bit. The only true thing about this movie is the fact that Sarah Winchester built this house. And that her husband and daughter died. After those events she moved to California, bought the farm house and started building. After the earthquake of 1906, which destroyed part of the house, Sarah moved into a nearby house where she lived for the last 15-20 years of her life. I will provide a link here where has more information on the true story behind Sarah and the Winchester House.
