Soooooooo I was going to do this in weekly posts but I’ll be honest. I don’t have the time. So I’m just going to make it in one post. So since it will be a bit long I won’t go into detail about each book.
So we start with the classics:
- Edgar Allan Poe
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
- Dracula by Bram Stoker
- Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Really you can read just about any King book and get spooky but here are a few favorites
- IT
- Bag of Bones
- Pet Sematary
- Carrie
- The Shining
- ‘Salem’s Lot
- Misery (which I’m currently reading)
I’ve just recently been introduced to Ray Bradburys other works (love Fahrenheit 451)
- Dark Carnival (this is an extremely hard book to find and when you do it’s ridiculously expensive)
- The Halloween Tree
- The October Country
- Something Wicked This Way Comes
- The Illustrated Man
These are ones I’ve read recently
- My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier (comes out in November in the USA)
- Brother by Ania Ahlborn
- The Neighbors by Ania Ahlborn
Ania Ahlborn is like a female version of Stephen King! She knows how to creep! I just recently bought the rest of her books and another one comes out in November.
Here are some that I’ve been told by others are a good spooky read
- The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
- The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
- 172 hours on the Moon by Johan Hardstad
- The Mercciless by Danielle Vega
- Seed by Ania Ahlborn
These are ones I found off a Goodreads list (I will star the ones I’ve read from this batch)
- House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
- NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
- Heart-Shapped Box by Joe Hill
- The Wintet People by Jennifer McMahon
- Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice 🌟
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
- The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier
- Doll Bones by Holly Black
- Coraline by Neil Gaiman
- A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness 🌟
- Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake 🌟
Well that’s all she wrote folks!!! Has anyone read any of these? What are your thoughts? Happy spooky reading!
This is an impressive list of recommendations! I really loved both Anna Dressed in Blood and The Dead House.
Also the pictures you took are amazing, great job! 🙂
