This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab review

“Kate Harker wants to be as ruthless as her father. After five years and six boarding schools, she’s finally going home to prove that she can be.

August Flynn wants to be human. But he isn’t. He’s a monster, one that can steal souls with a song. He’s one of the three most powerful monsters in a city overrun with them. His own father’s secret weapon.

Their city is divided, their city is crumbling.

Kate and August are the only two who see both sides, the only two who could do something.

But how do you decide to be a hero or a villain when it’s hard to tell which is which?”

Ummmm wow! Yea. I’m not even sure I can fully describe what I’m feeling right now. The only other book I have read of Ms. Schwab is A Darker Shade of Magic (which was I believe the book I got in my first Owl Crate box.) and I LOVED it! I went into this book knowing it would be good but then it BLEW ME AWAY! I finished it in a little over 24 hours.

I was in love with August from the start. Kate bugged me a little. Not because he character was written horribly but because she was a bit of an uptight bitch who needed to let go some demons. She grew on me and found myself loving her as well. I definitely did NOT see the twist towards the end. I still can’t even figure out what to say except…..GO READ THIS NOW!!!

I found a hidden message in this story. Not sure if she did this on purpose. Not even sure if anyone else saw it. Around 200 pages in it hit me like a ton of bricks. The way the monsters come to be, how and why they are created made me think of the world we live in today. We create the monsters in this world. The shadows that lurk in the dark. I would love to talk to other people who have read this and see if they saw the same thing as me. This book is set in the not too distant future. Could this happen to us? Will this be what our county, our world turns into?

5/5 stars
