The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

A young woman is making a living faking it as a cut-price psychic (with some illegal soft-core sex work on the side). She makes a decent wage by mostly telling people what they want to hear. But then she meets Susan Burke.

Susan moved to the city one year ago with her husband and 15-year-old stepson Miles. They live in a Victorian house called Carterhook Manor. Susan has become convinced that some malevolent spirit is inhabiting their home. The young women doesn’t believe in exorcism or the supernatural. However when she enters the house for the first time, she begins to feel it too, as if the very house is watching her, waiting, biding its time….”

Omg I just want to SCREAM at Gillian right now! That ending pissed me off more than Gone Girl did 😒. I love the creepy vibe of the book. Gillian is amazing at that. Good story line. Sucks as a short story. I want more! She needs to write this into a novel! I need closure. I have way too many questions for it to end like that! But overall I did enjoy it. Gillian is brilliant!

  1. I wasn’t a fan of Gone Girl (I hate the ending so much 😅), but I really want to read her other books. This one is on my TBR because I loved the premise. It’s frustrating to hear about the ending though, haha. I’lll be interested to see what I think.
